Mitt 08'

Most people don't think of me as a political campaigner but I am really fired up over Mitt Romney. I am so excited about a historic grassroots movement that he and his people are trying to accomplish. I have signed up on the Mitt Romney website to help with this movement and I would love any one's support that wants to give it. Team Mitt is trying to sign up 24,000 people in 24 hours. Tomorrow night Mitt and the other Republican hopefuls will be debating on Fox News. I encourage everyone to watch the debate and if you feel as I do that Mitt is the person this country needs to lead us and make some positive changes then please go to his website and sign up as a supporter. Just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the debate and I hope you will consider giving Mitt your support.

Watch the debate on Fox News at 9:00 pm est

Happy Birthday!!

Another exciting birthday for our family!! My niece Aubrey Reed is turning 9 on May 10th. We love Aubrey so much! Aubrey is so sweet, SMART, helpful, and obedient. I have never meet a more obedient child. She makes her family so proud of her. Thank you for being such a good girl Aubrey and such a wonderful example to your cousins.

Here's my story and I'm sticking to it....

I don't know how to tell this story of mine but my mother has told me I MUST blog about it. Here goes:

We have a local news anchor by the name of Andy Justice. He is on our local NBC station and I always watch him and his co-anchor Faith Miller. I decided to email him with a small request the other day and it really paid off. I will just copy our emails here for you all to read I think they speak for them self.

Andy,

I want to start with complimenting you and Faith on your wonderful job as co-anchors. Yours is the only station I enjoy watching and make it a habit to catch all my local news from your evening report. I also think you are such a cutie and have a great fashion sense. That being said, and after buttering you up enough, I would like to ask you a favor. I noticed tonight while watching a prerecorded promo during the show "Thank God You're Here" you were wearing a certain tie. I have been searching for just the right lime green tie for my husband to wear to a wedding and was so excited to see you wearing the exact tie I need. My kids and I are wearing a very fresh summery lime green and from my living room your tie looked like it fit the bill. I know this email makes me sound strange (although fun and whimsical is what I was going for) but I want to borrow your tie for our wedding this summer. Please don't think I am crazy just a little cheap.

What do you think,

Eliza Clement

His response:

Eliza... No problem... My tie is your tie... I have a couple of lime green ties so you'll have a few to pick from. But I think I know the tie you're talking about... Let me know when you want to come up and get it. Oh... thanks for the compliments... you made me smile... and I hope I can make the family match when it comes to the big wedding...

The rest of our correspondence:

I would love to come by and pick up that tie. Could I come by one morning? I work at Caprock High School but my mornings are semi-flexible could I come by sometime about 11? Which day would work for you? Are you normally in at that time? I would sort of like to meet you and take a picture of you, the girl getting married (my co-worker) and the tie (see I do this blog and I have been told by some that I HAVE TO include this story on my blog with pictures, my family can't believe I would even ask you to borrow a tie). I would like to reiterate that I really am normal.
Eliza

Hey Eliza... No problem.... but I don't work in the mornings. I usually get to work around 1:30 and I get off at 10:40.

This Wed. I'll be in early. I have an elementary school stopping bye. So... let me know.

I'm looking forward to meeting you.

AJ

Wow you respond so fast! Will you be too busy on Wed around 11:30?

EC

I should be open..... This is the time of night when I'm on the computer a lot. You know... last minute web-searching... I mean... looking up the big news of the night.

I'll see you Wed.

So that catches everyone up on our emails. Today was the big day, I like to think of myself as a bit of a journalist with my blog and all so I was excited to meet Andy and see the news place. I got there when the elementary kids were all leaving and saw him escorting them out to their bus. When he saw me he smiled and said, "Are you here for a tie?" I don't know how he knew I was the tie lady, maybe I have a crazy stalker look about me... I waited for him in the lobby and a minute later he met me in there and showed me around. He had brought many ties for me to choose from and I think I got a real winner. We took a picture of the official hand off and a couple of people came out of their offices to see what we were doing. I am guessing everyone knew I was coming because he kept saying, "this is the tie lady" they all wanted to shake my hand and they all made comments that this was the funniest request they had gotten. I felt like a celebrity because several people wanted to come out and meet me. It was really fun and Andy was super sweet. He said that he couldn't say no to anyone who had the gumption to ask to borrow one of his ties. All in all I would say it was fun and hey... it gave me something to blog about.
Here are the selection of ties I had to choose from. I think I picked a winner!!

Challenge

After reading my sister Emily's post about nostalgia I started watching some old 80's kids t.v. show intros on youtube. I have been having so much. I even found a great website called retrojunk.com. It became very addicting and found that I was watching clip after clip and what seemed like maybe 30 mins tops was actually 2 hours... Anyone interested should check out some of these old school t.v. intros and clips (if you weren't really a t.v. watcher then check out some of the retro toys or ads) and everyone should post one that is most memorable for them. I still need further research to find my perfect pick but I will be posting something myself. It is so fun to see these clips and then we can all have a nice trip down memory lane together.

Happy Birthday!!

It's another special birthday for our family. My fabulous sister Sarah is 28 today! Sarah has turned into such a wonderful mother to her son Ashton and her new one on the way. My kids love having their Aunt Sarah over because she is so much fun. I love having Sarah over because she is so helpful. She came to stay with me after Brooke and Morgan were both born and I loved having her here taking over some of my duties while I recovered. She spoiled me! I love you Sarah and can't wait until we see each other again in June.

My turn

I am sooooo exhausted. I woke up at 5 this morning so I could take a group of my deaf students on a field trip to Big Springs TX (about 4 hours away). I had to be one of the drivers and I have to tell you being in a minivan with 6 deaf kids for 4 hours one way and then 4 hours back can really drive you crazy. They are incredibly loud, and they want to try and carry on a conversation with you in sign language (of course) while you are trying to drive down a highway going 75 mph. I am glad I am home safe and sound with my family.

a butcher, a baker, a shoemaker???

Today Jacob's 2nd grade teacher emailed me with a funny little story about Jake. Apparently the class was discussing careers and their future (never too young to plan I guess) when she started asking individuals what they wanted to do when they grew up. Several children answered with the standards such as: policeman, teacher, doctor, fireman... When she got to Jacob he was struggling to come up with an answer and she started to prompt him by saying, "what would your dream job be." After a moment of contemplation he said, "I guess either an artist or a shoemaker." I had no idea he had been harboring tendencies towards shoe making. Like they say, "moms are the last to know."

Happy Birthday!!

What an exciting time of year it is for our family. We have yet another birthday to celebrate. Today is my sister-in-law Heather's birthday. I don't even know where to start with Heather, she amazes me. She and I were friends before she ever met my brother and I sort of like to take credit in them finding each other and the wonderful things that have followed for them. In my mind I was able to choose my future sister and I must say I couldn't have chosen any better. We love you Heather!! Hope your birthday is a wonderful day.

FYI Elder Uchtdorf was not a pirate

A funny story

I feel very fortunate to be the primary chorister. Not only do I have the blessing of working with Heavenly Father's little ones but I also get the added bonus of the occasional funny moment. For those of you who are not serving in primary and don't get to hear many innocent yet extremely funny comment let me share this one with you. Our primary president has been working all month on teaching the kids the names of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve. She has been making up songs that list them in order, telling personal stories and fun facts about them all, and sharing quotes from each of the Brethren. It has been very interesting for all of us and the kids are starting to match up names with faces. One of the fun facts she told the kids was that Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf was a pilot before he was called to serve full time in the church. This is one of the kids favorite fun facts so when ever she points to his picture lots of hands go up and the child called upon always says, "he was a pilot". Today our primary president displayed all the pictures and started asking the kids about them. Just like always when she gets to Elder Uchtdorf lots of hands go up. A little girl who has a bad speech impediment was called on and said, "he was a pilot (sounded like pirate)." The kids started laughing and one older boy said, "he was NOT a pirate!" The little girl was upset but tried again yelling out, "he was too a pilot (sounded like pirate again)!!" The primary president calmed things down at this point and said, "yes Maggie you're right he was a pilot".
